What has the League of Women Voters been up to lately in Acton, Boxborough, Hudson, Littleton, Maynard, and Stow?
Members of the League from Acton, Boxborough, Hudson, Littleton, Maynard, and Stow have been busy through the summer and fall with lots of activities aimed at educating and encouraging voters to be active participants in our democracy.
We started out the summer planning a candidate forum for the 14th Middlesex District State Representative primary election. The forum was jointly run by the Acton Area League, the Concord-Carlisle League, and the Chelmsford League and provided a great opportunity for voters to get to know the candidates in advance of the primary in September.
Members of the Acton Area League then headed out into the community, manning the League of Women Voters table at multiple local farmer's markets. We visited farmer's markets in Acton and Maynard, Hudson Fest , Fifer's Day in Boxborough, and Maynard Fest, and capped off the season with Diwali Fest in Acton. Kids came out to vote on their favorite ice cream flavor or Among Us character while their parents talked voter registration, elections, and local events.
On Tuesday, October 11 the Leagues of Women Voters from Concord-Carlisle and the Acton Area held a Candidate Forum for the 14th Middlesex State Representative seat. The 14th Middlesex covers Carlisle and parts of Concord, Acton, and Chelmsford. Candidates Rod Cleaves (R) and Simon Cataldo (D) answered questions submitted by attendees live at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center in Concord.
